Hinduism and Buddhism, have common origins in the Ganges culture of northern Indian during the so called "second urbanization"around 500 BCE.They have shared parallel beliefs that have existed side by side, but also pronounced differences.Buddhism attained prominence in the Indian subcontinent as it was supported by royal courts, but started to decline after the Gupta era, and virtually disappeared in the 11th century CE, except in some pockets of India. It has continued to exist outside of India and is the major religion in several countries.
- Hindus believe in the divinity of the four Vedas, the world's most ancient scripture, and venerate the Agamas as equally revealed. These primordial hymns are God's word and the bedrock of Santana Dharma, the eternal religion.
- One fundamental belief of Buddhism is often referred to as reincarnation the concept that people are reborn after dying. In fact, most individuals go through many cycles of birth, living, death and rebirth. A practicing Buddhist differentiates between the concepts of rebirth and reincarnation.
